Website style model

I will use the websites of 'The Week' and 'The Big Issue' for my style models when creating my website. I have selected these websites as my style models due to them being  current affairs websites, therefore they are appropriate for the website in which I intend to create.

What I like about The Week
  • The use of having 2 magazine front covers on the banner allows for the website to have an instant link to the physical magazines.
  • They have included the word 'subscribe' on the banner along with an offer to encourage viewers to subscribe to the magazine.
  • They have structured the page title to be the same style as the masthead of the magazine which creates a link between them.
  • The website has used the colours white, black and red as the house colours. The use of predominantly using only three colours allows for the website to appear professional.
  • The simple use of buttons on the page which will allow the user to easily access other pages of the website.
  • The use of having the section 'top 10 things you need to know today' allows for the user to gain quick and relevant information relating to current affairs.
  • I like how they have a range of stories on the page accompanied by appropriate images.

What I like about The Big Issue

  • I like how they have included the titles to a range of stories along with appropriate images.
  • They have included a little red box above the image which features an important word relating to the story which will interest the reader and encourage them to read the story.
  • They have also named the writer of each story which I think is important as it shows that they value the journalists that work for them.
